Coral Reefs are some of the most intricate, important ecosystems in the world. But, they're vanishing fast, creating challenges in communities worldwide. The problem is often out of sight and out of mind, so we highlight coral used for rebuilding reefs--bringing the conversation of coral restoration above the surface.
Coral are animals that help build coral reefs. Almost all coral are colonial organisms. Each coral is composed of many "coral polyps," which are the individual animals that collectively make the single coral structure. Each coral polyp has a mouth surrounded by tentacles, used to sting and grab their prey!
Reefs are some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet but are at risk of dying off, in a process often referred to as bleaching, mostly due to man-made problems. Coral restoration is the process of using natural processes to restore damaged reefs.
There are many things we can do to help restore reef health. Learning more is the first step. My art is designed to raise awareness for coral health, bleaching, and restoration. Discover how you can get involved in the solution, one step at a time.
